Elizabeth Tongue Tie Operation
We met with Dr Guy Henry on the 5th September to talk about Elizabeth possible tongue tie operation. Dr Guy Henry had a quick look and said that it looked like mild tongue tie and it would be wise for Elizabeth to undergo the Operation as soon as possible. He scheduled Elizabeth for the 16th October at Sydney Childrens Hospital Randwick. The day of the operation came and we were on our way to day surgery. Elizabeth didn’t go into surgery until late morning.
Dr Henry came in to see how Elizabeth was and told us we were going to see Dr Allan Reubenstein the Anesthesiologist that was there for Elizabeth in the Glenn Procedure November 2006. We were so excited to see Allan again, he is so caring of Elizabeth I remember when he told us the news of Elizabeths op being aborted he had a teary eyes.
As Allan walked in Elizabeth was happy to see him, didn’t cry at all, then we discussed that he wants Elizabeth have premed (to calm her before giving her the gas). Considering Elizabeth has been through it 3 times already he wanted to make this experience for her more relaxed and not so frightening. I was in the foyer getting a coffee for us when I saw Dr Murphy with other Doctors. I told him Elizabeth was having her Tongue Tie op and he said he will come and visit her later.
The time came for us to walk her up to theatre, Nona Mary came with me. I went in with her and we were greeted by such lovely doctors, everyone was so calm, and Elizabeth was lucky to have such a fantastic Bubble blower to put a smile on her face. Dr Reubenstein wanted to put the gas over her face slowly so the bubbles kept coming as Elizabeth was catching the bubbles and popping them she finally dosed off to sleep. Dr Reubenstein asked me to do one last thing, as I placed her gently on the table. He asked me to give her a big kiss before I left the room and that I did
.
The operation took about 1 hour and was a success. Elizabeth came out of the Anesthetic very quickly and we were able to leave the recovery room and go back to the day surgery wards. Dr Murphy came to visit Elizabeth and she was so excited to see him. He was explaining her complexed heart conditions to another Doctor who was with him and stated that Elizabeth is so determined that she had the fastest heart surgery recovery ever recorded. He wished her well and went on his merry way. Elizabeth was able to hold down fluids and i then gave her some custard and we were told that if can keep it down then we could go home soon.
Dr Henry came in to let us know how the op went, He said that on the table Elizabeths condition was Severe Tongue Tie as apposed to being mild therefore it was best that we went ahead with the op. He told us that it would take at least 3 days for the tongue to heal and that she should be okay. He said that she was able to go home soon. Dr Reubenstein also came to visit Elizabeth again and told us all went well. So we headed back home to recover.
Well as you all know Elizabeth is very fiesty and she recovered extremely quickly. Wthin 2 days she was running around acting like nothing had happened. We had a follow up appoint with Dr Henry 1 month later and he examined Elizabeth. He stated that her stitching had dissolved as planned and the cut looked clean and healed well. We discussed the possiblity if speech therapists for Elizabeth and both of us agreed that we would see how Elizabeth was going and if I had any concerns to contact him and we would organise something for her.
Big Big thanks to Dr Guy Henry, you have a heart of Gold and Healing Hands. Dr Allan Reubenstein, we thank you so much for taking care of our Daughter again.
